  • Completed Research Support, HR05-083, Mold (PI), 07/01/2005-06/30/2007, Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Technology, Creating a New Model of Delivery for Preventive Services. The major goal of this project is to establish then study, within a single primary care practice in Weatherford, Oklahoma, a model, evidence-based preventive services delivery system. The model system, which will substantially separate preventive services from routine office visits, will include brief, periodic “longevity visits” between physician and patient followed by longitudinal interactions between the patient and a preventive services nurse. The entire process will be facilitated by a computerized patient registry with decision support, recall and reminder, and audit functions. Role: PI

  • Completed Research Support, 62333, Mold (PI), 07/01/2005–06/30/2007, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Systematic Delivery of Brief Behavioral Counseling in Primary Care. We will study the impact of a multi-component translational strategy on use of brief interventions for improving diet, increasing exercise, and reducing cigarette and alcohol use in primary care practices. The aims are to: 1. Develop and administer training modules pertaining to each behavior; 2. Implement the interventions; and 3. Evaluate the project for reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and sustainability. Role: PI

  • Completed Research Support, 1R21 CA100518-01, Scheid (PI), 07/01/2003–06/30/2007, NCI/AHRQ Cooperative Agreement, Improving Colorectal Cancer Screening in Primary Care. To use "best practices research" methods to identify effective and efficient colorectal screening processes in a primary care based research network. Role: Co-Investigator

  • Completed Research Support, 1 R21 HS014850-02, Mold (PI), 09/30/2004–09/29/2006, AHRQ, Delivery of Preventive Services in Primary Care. The major goal of this project is to study the effectiveness of a multi-component intervention to translate three office system strategies known to increase delivery of immunizations and other preventive services in a group of primary care practices. This two-year study will contribute to our understanding of multi-component translational interventions within practice-based research networks. Role: PI

  • Completed Research Support, 20060426, Mold (PI), 07/01/2005–06/30/2006, Oklahoma Health Care Authority, Increasing EPSDT Completion Rates in Primary Care Practices. The goal of this project is to improve EPSDT rates by 1) optimizing EPSDT guidelines and flow sheets; 2) studying and spreading best practices; 3) providing an electronic recall and reminder system; and 4) recommending centralized assistance methods that would be complimentary and helpful. Role: PI

  • Completed Research Support, Subcontract # 4000535959, Duff (PI), 07/01/2005–06/30/2007, National Alliance for Research in Schizophrenia & Affective Disorders (Univ. of Iowa Subcontract), Mood and Thinking in Older Adults. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect (good or bad) of past mood difficulties on thinking in older adults. Additionally, we will examine the effect of past psychiatric treatments on thinking in adults as they age. Role: Subcontract PI

  • Completed Research Support, Equipment Grant, Mold (PI), 10/01/2005–09/30/2006, Presbyterian Health Foundation, Access Grid Node System integral to PBRN Research and the NIH Roadmap Initiative. This grant will support the purchase of an Access Grid System, which is an Internet-based communication system. The Access Grid technology is a new way to enhance group interaction in the virtual space. Utilizing the ultra-fast Internet2 backbone that connects hundreds of academic institutions nationwide, this system will increase the ability of researchers in the Dept. of Family and Preventive Medicine to collaborate with other researchers on campus, other academic medical centers, and primary care practices across the state. Role: PI

  • Completed Research Support, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2005–2005, Oklahoma State Medical Association-Subcontract, Smoke Free Families An agreement between University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma Physicians Research/Resource Network, and Oklahoma State Medical Association. For the implementation of a Smoke Free Families project to assist pregnant women to stop smoking and evaluate the implementation of Smoke Free Families Best Practice Intervention in private physicians’ offices. Role: Subcontract PI

  • Completed Research Support, 1 R21 HS13557-01, Mold (PI), 2002–2005, AHRQ, Enhancing Practiced-Based Research in OKPRN. Category I: This award provides funding for Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), a PDA Trainer, and a network coordinator for the OKPRN primary care practiced-based research network. Category II: The proposed exploratory/pilot project involves a randomized trial of three interventions for improving the management of diabetic patients. It is designed to test the impact of a best practice method developed using a research process that we have developed for use in practice-based research networks compared to benchmarking. It will also measure the value of Practice Enhancement Assistants (PEAs) for translating research into practice. Role: PI

  • Completed Research Support, PO # 20030073R1, Mold (PI), 2000–2004, Oklahoma Health Care Authority, Implementing Innovations to Improve Prevention Practice. Evaluation of the effectiveness of an IT application (Preventive Services Reminder System) for increasing preventive service delivery rate in primary care practices. Role: PI

  • Completed Research Support, Mold (PI), 1999–2004, Oklahoma State Dept. of Health, Tick-Borne Illness. An epidemiologic study of patients with symptoms of tick-borne illness who present to primary care physicians in Oklahoma. Role: PI

  • Completed Research Support, 2 U01 HS 11197-02, Mold (PI), 2001–2002, PHS/AHRQ, Building Capacity for Practice-Based Research. This was the continuation of a planning grant to enhance the capabilities of practice-based research networks. Data was collected from network clinicians on a sample of patient encounters to better characterize their practices (Primary Care Network Survey). Role: PI

  • Completed Research Support, 1 P20HS11197-01, Mold (PI), 2000–2001, AHRQ, Building Capacity for Practice-Based Research. This project was intended to help primary care practice-based research networks build infrastructure by increasing the number of practices serving minority and underserved patients, improving data collection methods to include IT, developing methods for translating research into practice, and ensuring sustainability by developing 5-year business plans. Role: PI

  • Completed Research Support, Mold (PI), 2002–2003, Oklahoma State Department of Health, Bioterrorism Surveillance and Messaging System. The Oklahoma Center for Family Research at the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center has been working closely with the Oklahoma Physicians’ Resource/Research Network, a primary care practice-based research network to develop ways to collect and disseminate information between the center and practicing clinicians. This system identifies office nurses as the key contacts/disseminators, and it empowers them through the use of personal digital assistants, which they use for an increasing variety of routine clinical and study-specific tasks. Role: PI

  • Ongoing Research Support, Mold (PI), 09/01/07-08/31/08, HHSA290200710009I. Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality. Task Order No. 2. The use of information technologies by primary care practices to support self-care management during a pandemic influenza. The goal of this project is to improve primary care practice surge capacity by implementing technologies that assist patients in home-based self-management during an influenza epidemic or pandemic.
