Geriatric Medicine Fellowships

Training geriatricians and gerontologists for leadership in teaching, research, clinical care and academic careers is the primary goal of the Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine. The Fellowship is directed by the Department faculty who are dedicated to the triple mission of education, service and research.

The Fellowship is a one year program for physicians who are board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. It was designed to promote expertise in state-of-the-art geriatric clinical care, both inpatient and outpatient, clinical epidemiology, basic sciences, psychosocial gerontological issues and rehabilitation. Two or more fellows are accepted into the program each year. During the year, responsibilities are divided as follows: 90 percent clinical care and 10 percent administration.

At the heart of health care for the State of Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Health Center houses multiple sites used as clinical care facilities during the fellowship period. Both the Oklahoma Medical Center and the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center ar at this location. University Hospital (226 adult beds), Veterans Affairs Medical Center (244 beds), HCA Columbia/Presbyterian Hospital (350 beds) and the Oklahoma Christian Home (120 beds) are available for clinical experiences.
