We are very supportive of our residents pursuing interest in research. There are many opportunities available, from writing case reports and performing chart reviews to performing clinical research. Examples of what our residents have done include:
- Toney Welborn-Group B strep in pregnancy
- Andrew Jones-Swimmer's knee, Coverage of the medically uninsured, and Perineal laceration teaching model
- Marty Murthy-Preventable cycling injuries
Dr. Jim Mold heads the research division of our department. Residents have access to faculty experience in performing and reviewing research, statisticians, grant writers and physicians in the community who perform research as part of their practice. We have a practice-based research network that is actively researching and answering questions that commonly come up in practice settings such as:
- Best treatment for brown recluse spider bites
- Best way to manage laboratory test results
- B12 injections in elderly patients
